March is here and there are lots of opportunities to Do Some Science! From Pi Day to World Water Day to the first day of Spring, take a look at what March brings for the science lover in you.
In addition to being National Nutrition Month and Women’s History Month, the month of March is full of great opportunities to get involved in the world of science. On March 14th, you can celebrate Pi Day by learning a bit of math and sharing a bit of pie with your family and friends. We will welcome spring on the Vernal equinox (March 20th) and observe the third and last supermoon of the year on March 21st. Here’s a list of some other great science events this month.
March 1: On this day in 1921, Harry Houdini was granted patent #1,370,316 for a diver’s suit.
March 3: Birthday of Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the first working telephone.
March 6: On this day in 1899, Felix Hoffmann patented aspirin after discovering that the compound salicin, found in willow plants, relieved pain.

March 15: Birthday of the biologist, Lynn Margulis. Her theories of cell development contributed to our understand of how life arose on Earth.

March 21: Full Worm Moon (also known as Full Crow Moon or Full Crust Moon). The last of three supermoons for the year.

March 23: Birthday of mathematician, Emmy Noether. Because of her contributions to mathematics, Albert Einstein called her “the most significant creative mathematical genius thus far produced since the higher education of women began”
