Today’s Gift Idea: The Worm Book
NASA’s iconic graphic designs have appeared on everything from the Space Shuttle to hats and t-shirts. NASA’s tubelike logo – lovingly known as the “worm” – was born in 1975 and marked an era of modernity for the space agency. It was retired in 1992, and was only to reproduced on merchandise. In honor of the worm’s legacy, indie publisher Standards Manual has released a book that showcases images from NASA’s archives. Each photo was chosen with one simple criteria: each must feature “the worm”. This beautiful collection of more than 200 images traces the application of the most famous logo in the galaxy. It also spotlights the incredible achievements of NASA personnel who worked under it. The final chapter of the book covers the historic return of the worm. It flew again on the Space X Falcon 9 rocket as it ventured to the International Space Station this year!
